Zimbabwe stun India and vice versa!

Zimbabwe stun India and vice versa!

Albeit without any members of their champion squad, ICC T20 World Cup winners India were beaten by Zimbabwe on Saturday. But the men in blue would quickly bounce back.

On a weekend of cricketing action in Harare, India visited Zimbabwe with a host of young guns captained by Shubman Gill.

As the country continued their victory celebrations following last weekend’s world cup final win over South Africa, the young squad knew that places in the first string side were up for grabs as they embarked on their five-match series.

Despite not qualifying for the showpiece event, Zimbabwe showed on Saturday that they would be no walkover.

After scoring just 115 in the first game, the hosts shocked the champions by bowling them out for 102 as Sikander Raza took 3/25 and Tendai Chatara a stellar 3/16.

Sunday’s second T20, however, was an entirely different ball game.

India batted first and put a mammoth score on the board as Abhishek Sharma hit a 47-ball century at the top of the order.

Ruturaj Gaikwad came in at number three with 77 runs to guide the visitors to 234/2 in their 20 overs.

In response, Zimbabwe could only manage 134 before being bowled out by Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar.

The 100-run victory leaves the series level at 1-1 ahead of the final three games next week.
