Zimbabwe head coach Jairos Tapera stated that his side has placed a great focus on their mentality ahead of their clash against Bafana Bafana.

Zimbabwe boss Jairos Tapera has revealed that while Bafana Bafana might have home advantage, his side has mustered up something special in preparation for their big match on Tuesday evening.

The Free State Toyota Stadium will play host to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier between the two African sides on Tuesday as they battle to climb in Group C.

South Africa were held to a 1-1 draw by Nigeria on matchday 3, and currently occupy fourth spot in the group, while the Warriors suffered a 2-0 defeat to Lesotho that same day.

They are subsequently bottom of the group with two points from three matches, but Zimbabwe coach Tapera has refused to rule out his side’s ability to bounce back with a victory over Hugo Broos’ charges.

The manager also highlighted the mental condition of his players ahead of the match and a tactical plan he feels could help them come away with a result.

“We have worked on the mentality side more than anything else,” the Warriors boss said, per The Herald.

“We have also worked on the tactics that we think will work for us when we face South Africa.

“They might be home and feeling happy, but we are here to compete and we are going to do everything that we can to come up with a positive result.

“We are going to make changes because we are going to remodel the way we will play.

“The formation is one thing that we could change at first, so we will see how it goes.

“We are trying to talk to the players, pushing them to at least give us the best we can.”

Tapera also emphasised the benefit of coming away from the encounter with all three points.

“If we win, we will be on five points and that will be huge for us, then wait for the next games to come,” he added.

“We are so hopeful that we will be able to win this match against South Africa.”
