MSMEs in Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire to get digital support

Digital support for Africa’s MSMEs is again making headlines thanks to news stories about companies in Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire being enabled to digitally boost their businesses.

Small businesses in Livingstone, Zambia’s top tourism destination, can now benefit from a collaboration between multilateral agency the International Trade Centre (ITC) and Absa Bank Zambia which aims to unlock the potential of online business for growing trade through the ITC ecomConnect Learning Programme’s suite of digital tools and training.

The new hub will offer free access to a mix of online and offline resources, including a dedicated e-learning platform with self-driven training tailored to Zambian needs, and online support to get first-hand advice and feedback from experts, as well as e-commerce focus groups, technical workshops and webinars to share knowledge about e-commerce topics.

It also offers free access to e-learning materials and ITC’s e-commerce tools and benefits ITC’s partnerships with local and international marketplaces such as eBay and Novica, and logistics and payment providers like DHL and Payoneer, to access additional capacity building, technical support and preferential rates.

The new programme in Zambia forms part of ITC’s Digital Moonshot, a cross-cutting effort to make sure that small businesses in developing countries can reap the benefits of the digital economy.

This announcement comes about a week after Tappi, the end-to-end digital commerce SaaS solution tailored for Africa’s micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs), announced its expansion into Côte D’Ivoire.

Building on its operations in Kenya and Nigeria, Tappi’s latest country launch extends an existing partnership with MTN, marking a significant step forward for the start-up’s mission to drive the digitalisation of MSMEs across Africa.

Côte d’Ivoire’s MSMEs can receive access to Tappi’s SaaS and enterprise-grade tools for US$8/month. The tools will empower them to generate SEO-optimised websites in less than two minutes, distribute online ads, and secure access to a host of additional digital services.

Through Tappi’s partnership with MTN Côte d’Ivoire, the telecom’s 17 million customers in the country will also be able to access these services via integrated data bundles, bolstering their capacity to get online, build trust and reach new customers.
