Uganda’s Jas Mangat drew first blood winning the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda rally shake down at Bujagali in Jinja.
Mangat navigated by French navigator Laurent Magat in Hyundai i20 posted a total time of two minutes, 36.1 seconds (02:36.1) to beat rival Karan Patel (02:36.7) in Skoda Fabia by six Microseconds in a fierce battle of Machines and skills.

The win excited Ugandan fans who are eagerly waiting to throng the morning stages and support their Shell V-Power fueled driver who targets the same results in the next two days.
“We are hoping for the best. The car is good and we shall attack tomorrow depending on how the environment will be, but our target is good results,” Mangat, who is carrying the Uganda Flag said.

Hamza Anwar (02:42.9) came third while UMOSPOC ambassador Ronald Sebuguzi came fourth and International University of East Africa director Hassan Alwi followed fifth.
The crews on Saturday, May 11, 2024, start with the 25.44km Macarena stage that passes through the villages of Kitigoma and Nakawungu, then take the fight in the 8.85km Tadooba stage in the villages of Nakawungu and Bukolongo before service.

After service, they head to Katushya 18.96km, before repeating macarena, Tadooba, Katyusha, and day one with Sura Mbaya stage 22.55 Km.
On Day two the crews will cover 70.54km after repeating the Sura Mbaya and Macarena stages and then end the rally with prize giving at the source of the Nile.

The three-day attracted 35 crews is co-sponsored by KCB bank and Shell V-power will cover a total distance of 525.9km of which 209.45 shall be competitive.
