Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kenya’s Karan Patel has been crowned champion of the 2024 Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally after winning eight of the nine sections in the three day rally that concluded on Sunday. The ARC Rally started and ended at the Speke Resort Park, in Bujjagali cell, in Northern division, in Jinja city.
“We came to win and overly exhibited competitive performance, which edged us a level higher than our colleagues in the ARC category,” said Karan Patel after finishing top.
He however said a challenge of intensive hot weather patterns primarily affected their usual speed. “There are obviously challenges in Motorsport, but I hail my father who identified my talent and supported me in my primary career stages, but I also hail KCB bank for sponsoring me on event basis and Red bull coming onboard,” added Karan Patel.
Uganda’s Jas Mangat and Kenya’s Hamza Anwar finished in the second and third positions respectively. Mangat who also won the same rally in 2022 says that the sport has registered tremendous improvement, with participants exhibiting competence throughout the race.
This year’s rally attracted 37 participants and of these, seven vied for the ARC category, whereas, the rest settled for the NRC. Twenty participants finished the Rally.
