Alexandre Laure | Senior Private Sector Specialist

Alexandre Laure is a senior private sector specialist in the Finance, Competitiveness & Innovation (FCI) Global Practice of the World Bank Group. He joined the Bank in 2012 and is currently based in Jakarta, coordinating private sector activities (advisory and lending) in Indonesia and Timor-Leste with a focus on attracting investments, improving the business environment, developing the tourism sector, and preparing firms for digital transformation & net-zero transition.  He acted as the Fragility, Conflict & Violence (FCV) focal point for the FCI Global Practice for several years and was successively based in Beirut (Lebanon) and Bamako (Mali) from 2015 to 2021. Before coming to the Bank, Alexandre was a climate entrepreneur in East Africa, where he founded Green Bio Energy, Uganda’s leading green business in household waste-to-energy. He started his career in strategy at Orange S.A., the multinational telecom corporation, and held various positions in project management. He also worked in the French diplomatic service. In addition to Green Bio Energy, he has co-founded several other companies in Europe and Africa and is an active business angels focusing on environmental and tech startups. Alexandre has lived in 15 countries, including more than 21 years spent in Sub-Saharan Africa (Uganda, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Chad, Central African Republic, Gabon, and Mali). He has also traveled to a total of 114 countries worldwide and looks forward to more adventures in the future with his family. He graduated from Sciences Po and EDHEC Business School.
