According to Hashgraph, 70 participants from 20 teams across 9 African countries showcased their innovative projects and demonstrated the potential of DLT in Africa, paving the way for the creation of a thriving developer community around Hedera.

The teams of 3-5 members build projects in one of three categories:

DeFi
DAOs, and
Metaverse/NFT

with the requirement that at least one member of the team needs to be certified on the Hedera ecosystem.

Below are the three projects that emerged winners, in order:

DigiLand: Developed a service certifying land and real estate properties for Africa on Hedera, aiming to combat fraud and enhance the security of private property

AfriKare: Introduced a service empowering African people to control their medical data through a Hedera identity wallet. Recognized for its impact

Aqua: Presented a DeFi lending protocol designed for African communities, contributing to financial inclusion

The event was a collaborative effort between the following entities:

Dar Blockchain – Tunisian Web3 company and a pionner of the blockchain space in the country

The Hashgraph Association (Hedera) – a not-for-profit organization supporting training and education programs for adoption of Hedera-powered, enterprise-grade solutions

ESPRIT University – A Tunisian institution specializing in engineering and technology

SUP’COM University – The Higher School of Communication of Tunis (Engineering School of Communication of Tunis)

According to an earlier BitKE press release shared by Dar Blockchain, the aim of the Hackathon, backed by the Hedera Network, is to boost the adoption and understanding of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) in the country.

Selection criteria for the best projects was based on:
