Moov Africa Togo plans new subsea cable

Connecting Casablanca to Lomé in Togo, the new system was confirmed by Abdellah Tabhiret, managing director of Moov-Africa Togo, who told Togo First:

“This cable will develop and improve international coverage and connectivity, especially national connectivity. It has a great capacity which will allow internet users to surf properly.”

The news is set to bolster the company’s offering in Togo, with the Maroc Group’s H1 financial results revealing that the company saw a 13.8% decline in subscribers, compared to the same period in 2019.

Maroc Telecom acquired a 95% stake in Togo’s incumbent mobile operator, Atlantique Telecom Togo, back in 2015 and has been fully consolidated into the parent company’s financial statements since then.

At the start of 2021, Maroc Telecom rebranded its eleven subsidiaries in Africa as Moov Africa, in order to unite its companies on the continent under a single identity. This included:  Gabon Telecom, MAURITEL, Moov Benin, Moov Centrafrique, Moov Cote d’Ivoire, Moov Niger, Moov Togo and SOTELMA-Mali.

“This new identity illustrates the vision of the Maroc Telecom group “Africa on the move”, which lies in the principle of sharing the group’s know-how and its capacity for innovation for the benefit of the countries in which it operates,’ said Maroc at the time.
