He invites the people of God in the Southern African Kingdom to keep Dr. Mthethwa in prayer, “aware of the significance of her service during a pandemic affecting the whole world.”

Established in 1933 as the International Study Committee of Catholic Nursing Associations, the entity, which has presence in Africa, Asia, Europe and Pan Americas, changed its name to CICIAMS in 1950.

Members of CICIAMS aim to promote basic and advanced nurse education and professional research, represent members’ professional and Christian interests, and foster spiritual welfare and ethical values of members.

They also endeavor to promote health and social measures following Christian principles and professional development, and promote cooperation between member associations.

In its mission, which is informed by the moral and social teachings of the Catholic Church, members of CICIAMS strive to give Christian witness in their lives through guiding and supporting healthcare workers internationally, and coordinating the work of member associations in their efforts to evangelize the ethos and ideals of the nursing profession and society in general.

They are also committed to promoting the initiation of and participation in professional research and development towards the achievement of optimum care and well-being, respecting the religious convictions of others and accepting their rights to practice their beliefs, developing a positive vision of life from conception to death, and representing Christian and professional values in their work with other national and international associations.

In carrying out its mandate, the leadership of CICIAMS collaborates with the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, and the Secretariat of State.
