Three-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions Nigeria will
learn their AFCON 2025 opponents
in three weeks.
The journey to AFCON 2025 in Morocco will resume with CAF conducting the draw for the
qualifiers on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in Johannesburg, South
Africa. The draw will take place at the SuperSport studios.
The
Super Eagles were losing finalists in the last edition, losing
to the host nation Ivory Coast in the final.

The qualifiers are set to begin in September 2024, aiming to
determine the initial 24 nations that will compete in Africa’s
premier event, the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in
Morocco in 2025.
AFCON 2025 qualifiers: 48 nations set
for draw to determine group stage battles
Fourty-eight nations, including the four winners from the
preliminary round (Chad, Eswatini, Liberia, and South Sudan), will
be divided into 12 groups of four teams each to compete for spots
in the finals of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in
Morocco in 2025.
Among the confirmed nations for the draw are current African
champions Cote d’Ivoire, along with Algeria, Angola, Benin,
Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic,
Comoros, Congo, DR Congo, Egypt.
The rest are Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana,
Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi,
Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria,
Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa,
Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

As usual, seeded teams will be in pot 1. This includes
the Super
Eagles, who reached the final of AFCON 2023.
Reigning African champions Ivory Coast will also be in pot 1, as
well as semi-finalists South Africa and DR Congo.
2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists Morocco, Mali, Senegal,
Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon and Burkina Faso should also be
among the seeded teams.
