Sudan Conflict One Year On: Women’s Leadership, Impacts, and Ways Forward

The conflict in Sudan has left nearly 25 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, displaced more than eight million inside and outside of the country, and disproportionately affected women and girls.

On April 11, 2024, Alliance for Peacebuilding, Refugees International, and Vital Voices hosted a hybrid event marking the one-year anniversary of the conflict in Sudan.

The event featured opening remarks from U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield and a moderated discussion with U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello, followed by a panel of Sudanese women leaders to explore the gendered impacts of the conflict, as well as opportunities for their influence on the peace process and the future of the country.

And a moderated discussion with Vital Voices President and CEO Alyse Nelson

Followed by a panel discussion of Sudanese women leaders, featuring:
