Ethiopia and South Sudan are putting the final touches to start building a 220-km cross border road that would cost up to 738 million dollars.
The deal for the road was signed by the two governments in May 2023 and has just been approved by the South Sudanese legislative assembly, according to an Ethiopian foreign ministry statement.
Trade between the two countries has yet to hit its potential partly because of the lack of proper roads and instability.
According to the financial agreement, Ethiopia will cover the cost of the road project, while South Sudan will pay back via crude oil exports.
