The Centre for Analytics and Behavioural Change (CABC) has reported over 800,000 references to discussions about the Government of National Unity (GNU) post-election between June 1 and 18, 2024.
Many of these mentions were linked to the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party), which alleged that the elections were neither free nor fair and were rigged. Nationalistic and xenophobic sentiments have emerged, contributing to divided opinions on the GNU, with some critics calling it “anti-poor” and “anti-transformation”.
The GNU comprises of 11 political parties, 32 ministers, and 43 deputy ministers.
