The African National Congress (ANC) has reportedly expelled former president Jacob Zuma for violating the party’s rules, including campaigning for and leading his newly formed uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party against the ANC. “The charged member is expelled from the ANC. The charged member has the right to appeal…” a leaked report by the party’s disciplinary committee stated.
Zuma’s hearing was held virtually, with ANC’s Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula as a key witness. Five members of the party’s 7-member National Executive Committee are said to have voted for the expulsion of the former president.
