They are level on points with England but sit above the defending champions due to their better net run rate. If the match between South Africa and the West Indies gets washed out due to rain, then WI must hope that the USA beat England or that the USA-England match gets washed out due to rain. In that case, England and WI will finish with 3 points each, but since the Windies net run rate is better, they will advance to the semi-finals.
If the West Indies lose against South Africa, then they will qualify for the semifinals if the USA beat England by a close margin. In such a scenario, the USA, England, and West Indies will finish with two points each, and due to a better net run rate, Men in Maroon will progress.
England: England will qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals if they beat the USA on Sunday (June 23) and the West Indies lose against South Africa in the last Group 2 Super 8 match.
If the West Indies win the match, then England will qualify if they beat the USA and manage to finish with a better net-run rate than South Africa.
If the match between England and the USA gets washed out due to rain, then they must hope that the West Indies lose against South Africa because, in that case, England with three points will finish above the West Indies, who will have two points.
If England loses against the USA, then they must make sure that the margin is not big and pray that South Africa beat the West Indies by a big margin so that WI’s net run rate comes below theirs and they finish 2nd despite having the same points as the USA and the West Indies.
USA: The USA will qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals if they beat England by a big margin, and then South Africa beat the West Indies by a big margin. In such a scenario, the USA, West Indies, and England will have two points each, and Aaron Jones’ men will progress due to a better net run rate. If the match between England and the USA gets washed out or the USA loses, then the United States team will get knocked out of the tournament.
