Rwanda’s growing influence in the Central African Republic – involving military, diplomatic, and economic interventions – is coming under increased scrutiny.
AllAfrica reports on a new study from the Brussels-based think-tank, the International Crisis Group, which examines Rwanda’s support for President Faustin-Archange Touadéra’s administration.
Rwanda joins Wagner, the Russian mercenary group, as a foreign force underpinning Touadéra’s power. Writing in the Daily Maverick, Phillip van Niekerk notes that the business models of Rwanda and Wagner are not dissimilar: both are developing commercial empires off a military foothold.
