The Ultimatum: South Africa was a wild ride, but the stories seemed unfinished, leading to questions of whether there would be a reunion and when it would air. Like the original series, The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On, The Ultimatum: South Africa season 1 featured couples where one member was ready for marriage and the other didn’t want to commit. Over two trial marriages, one with a stranger and one with their original partner, the couples decided whether to tie the knot or say goodbye forever.
Hosted by longtime couple Salamina and Howza Mosese, the series promised entertainment and relatability, showcasing African traditions and relationship challenges. It premiered on Netflix on May 10, offering a rollercoaster of emotions as couples face high-stakes decisions about their futures. The six couples may have been the messiest yet and even featured the most villainous Ultimatum cast member ever. Some couples chose to get engaged, while others dramatically said goodbye. As fans await The Ultimatum season 3, it’s time to dive into the South Africa spinoff.

The Ultimatum: South Africa’s Reunion Will Air May 24
The Cast Will Return To Hash It Out
Luckily, fans of the newest spinoff of The Ultimatum don’t have to wait long for the season 1 reunion. The first nine episodes of The Ultimatum: South Africa season 1 aired on Friday, May 10, 2024. For those who binged the nine episodes in record time, the wait for the reunion won’t be too much longer. The reunion will air on Netflix on Friday, May 24, 2024.
The reunion will not air live, unlike previous Netflix shows. After the disastrous attempt at a live Love Is Blind season 4 reunion, the network appears to have given up on a live event. Furthermore, South Africa is in a different time zone than the United States, and the show has gained epic popularity in the country over the past few days. Fans only have to wait a little over a week for the fallout from The Ultimatum: South Africa season 1.
Are Any Couples From The Ultimatum: South Africa Still Together?
There Were Some Shocking Splits
Not all the six couples who entered The Ultimatum: South Africa left the villas together. However, there were a few engagements. Sizakele Dhlamini and Lindile Nibe chose to get engaged after their trial marriage even though they had only been in a relationship for six months. Additionally, Courtney and Aiden decided to get engaged after their separation brought them closer. Lastly, Genesis B and Mmathabo Thabby, AKA Thabi, chose to get engaged in the finale despite Thabi expressing interest in Lindile during their trial marriage. However, the pair had previously been together for seven years.
Three couples decided to part ways in the finale. Nolla and Lebogang B Sephaphathi chose to leave the show midseason after Nolla’s infidelity with Ruth Khathide came to light. Nolla quickly followed suit, and the pair do not seem to have rekindled their connection after the show aired. Khanya Nqolase, the season’s mean girl, rejected Nkateko Mahange’s promise ring, ending their toxic and potentially abusive relationship. Ruth and Isaac Kaninda also called it quits, with Ruth’s cheating and Isaac’s inability to meet Ruth’s needs leading to the split.

Nolla refused to be honest about sleeping with Ruth, seemingly forgetting that everything they did had been recorded for a TV show. Instead of owning up to his actions, he blamed Ruth for his infidelity.
While it’s safe to say that the three couples who broke up on The Ultimatum: South Africa are no longer together, it’s unclear whether the three couples who got engaged have since tied the knot or moved on. All will be revealed in the reunion, which airs May 24. Courtney and Aiden seem the most likely to have stayed together, with Genesis and Thabi second and Siza and Lindile in last place. However, The Ultimatum is known for surprises.

The Couples’ Journeys On The Ultimatum: South Africa Explained
The Season Was An Epic Rollercoaster Ride
The Ultimatum: South Africa was a wild ride for the entire season. Jealousy and infidelity began to crop up before the participants even chose the person with whom they would enter into a trial marriage. Khanya found herself bored with all the men, ultimately choosing Isaac, who would eventually regret his decision. He called her a gold digger and couldn’t stand her by the end of their trial marriage. However, they seemed to have some chemistry before she became openly vile.
Unfortunately for Isaac, his partner, Ruth, had a strong connection with Nolla. The pair admitted to sleeping with each other multiple times. Although they got along well, both seemed to want to cheat on their partners and left the experiment alone after a blowout fight between Lebo, Nolla, Isaac, and Ruth. Lebo was fully committed to Nolla, wanting to get married. However, after seeing his behavior with Ruth, she was finally able to move on, leaving The Ultimatum early.
Nkateko and Siza were surprisingly compatible, with Siza becoming the anti-Khanya in many ways. She was kind, thoughtful, and bubbly– a far cry from Khanya, who was cold, cruel, and robotic in her tone of voice. Unfortunately, Siza’s personality threatened Khanya, who seemed to enter the experiment thinking there was no way Nkateko could fall for anyone else. Unfortunately, Nkateko was too invested in his toxic relationship with Khanya, and he tried to give her a chance. Luckily for him, the potential narcissist left him after he failed to produce an engagement ring.

Thabi and Lindile also hit it off, going on gym dates and cooking meals together. Siza felt threatened by Thabi after returning to Lindile, demanding that he return the gift she had delivered. Siza and Thabi seemed to find what they sought in their trial marriages, but they returned to their original partners because of familiarity and fear. Genesis and Courtney never connected physically due to her unwillingness to open up in the trial marriage, and Lindile didn’t appear torn between Siza and Thabi.
Aiden and Lebo were close friends rather than potential love interests. Still, his support and kindness helped Lebo get through the experience with Nolla, who used it as an opportunity to misbehave. Unsurprisingly, Aiden and Courtney could return to each other without regrets or drama, having learned valuable lessons about themselves. Their engagement was the least surprising of the six couples.
The Ultimatum: South Africa was messier than ever. With couples that seemed intent on infidelity and exploring their options, the betrayals throughout were almost too much to handle. Between Khanya throwing wine at Nkateko and screaming at Siza, the show also provided the worst franchise villain ever. The Ultimatum: South Africa’s reunion on May 24 can’t come soon enough.
