In the heart of Southern Africa, Namibia is making headway with its green hydrogen initiative. The project, led by Namibia-based Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, partly owned by German renewables company Enertrag, represents a significant leap towards sustainable energy independence for the continent. “The finalisation of this funding commitment demonstrates the belief of DBSA in the Hyphen project,” CEO of Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, Marco Raffinetti, said in a company statement, emphasizing the pivotal role the Southern African region can play in leveraging its renewable resources and participating in the financing of the energy transition.
“We look forward to walking the journey with DBSA to financial close, where we hope that both these organisations will be significant providers of debt funding to the project.”
Adding to the project’s momentum, the German government earlier this year presented a Letter of Intent (LOI) to Enertrag, signaling the potential designation of Hyphen’s project as a “strategic foreign project” of interest to Germany. This status, reserved for high-priority global projects, would enable greater support through Germany’s foreign trade promotion instruments.
