This opulent hotel sits amid lavish gardens that began life as a 28-acre farm of olive groves and clementine orchards. Situated a few miles beyond the city walls, close to the Kasbah (the large walled 12th century district, home to the royal palace), the gardens are attuned to both environmental concerns and preservation, 3,500 trees were conserved and carefully replanted to form a geometric grid of tree-lined promenades that are today overseen by head gardener, Issam Adjou.
“In colour and form, Jardin Majorelle remains a constant source of inspiration,” he told me, as we walked around a newly planted cactus garden bordered by pretty villas. From then, I walked slowly and breathed deeply, inhaling the delicate scent of tiny white Snow fairy roses and of lavender, rosemary, verbena, and myrtle carried on warm breezes.
