In an interview with MAP, on the sidelines of the 2nd edition of Gitex Africa Morocco, Ms. Mezzour said that Morocco’s hosting of this international event will make it possible to attract new investments to Morocco and pave the way for participating companies so that they can access new markets, noting that this event shows the particular interest that Morocco places in the socio-economic development of the African continent.
“Today, Africa must be a producer of the latest digital technologies,” she pointed out, adding that the African continent has young people qualified in the digital field, which will allow, through the various activities of this show, to identify solutions developed by African companies, to consolidate South-South cooperation and to benefit from experiences with the aim of promoting the development of the continent.
In this regard, the minister stressed that the Morocco Digital Strategy 2030, announced Wednesday in Marrakech by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, will be launched in the coming weeks.
This strategy aims to speed up the process of digitization of public services, so that they can become easy, simple and transparent for citizens, especially since it aims to develop Morocco’s digital economy, through the outsourcing sector, she said.
This strategy is based on three pillars, namely human skills, telecommunications infrastructure and cloud services, she explained, noting that Morocco has significant qualified human resources in the digital sector, which will be further strengthened through the training of young people in the different regions of the Kingdom.
Ms. Mezzour recalled that her department signed, on the sidelines of the show, a partnership agreement with the world tech leader “Oracle”, relating to the establishment of a developed cloud services center, the first of its kind in North Africa.
With a total investment of 1.4 billion Dirhams, this center will provide highly developed cloud services linked to artificial intelligence, as well as various digital solutions, with a view to accelerating the process of digital transformation in Morocco and in Africa, she added.
The 2nd edition of Gitex Africa Morocco kicked off Wednesday in Marrakech, with the participation of over 1,500 exhibitors from more than 130 countries.
A global showcase for technology, innovation, and networking, the event is an opportunity for participants to share their knowledge around three main themes: “Building a Unified Digital Africa,” “Connectivity,” and “Digital Cities.”
As a unique acceleration platform for startups and innovative SMEs on an international scale, Gitex Africa strives to be a hub for a continent in full effervescence, fostering exchanges on the latest developments in tech in various fields, including artificial intelligence, healthcare, and cybersecurity.
