People often refer to Africa as the most poverty-stricken continent globally. Many countries in Africa are striving for development, while others are under the control of extremist governments. These factors greatly influence the overall safety conditions in the region. Mauritius has been identified as the safest country to visit in Africa by the Global Peace Index.

Safest country in Africa: Mauritius
The Global Peace Index (GPI) named Mauritius the safest country to visit in the whole of Africa. The GPI is an annual report that measures and ranks the peacefulness of 163 countries to determine the world’s most peaceful countries. It is the world’s leading measure of global peacefulness.
The main criteria that the GPI uses are grouped into three categories:
international and domestic conflict,
safety and security, and
militarisation.
Mauritius is an island nation that embraces diversity and is suitable for families. It is located in the Indian Ocean. It is a safe place to visit and explore. According to Travel Safe – Abroad, it is a very safe country and, on the whole, its crime rates are very low. What little crime there is, usually tends to be just petty theft and non-violent.
Mauritius was Flight Centre’s SA travellers’ most popular international destination in 2023.
