Egyptian referee Mohamed Adel will officiate South Africa’s clash with Mali in the opening round of group E in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Group E will kick off on Tuesday, January 16, with Tunisia facing Namibia, before South Africa takes on Mali.
Not only the game will see Al Ahly’s Percy Tau face his club teammate Aliou Dieng, but the game will also be officiated by Egyptian Premier League referee Mohamed Adel.
The EFA confirmed the news, stating that Mohamed Adel will be assisted by linesmen Mahmoud Abouelregal and Ahmed Hossam Taha, with Amin Omar appointed as the fourth referee.
Amin Omar had taken charge of the opening game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which saw hosts Ivory Coasts beat Guinea-Bissau 2-0.
