Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Francis Kasaila of Malawi

On September 26, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Francis Kasaila of Malawi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi said, China-Malawi relations have enjoyed sound development, with stable progress in exchanges and cooperation in various areas since the two countries established diplomatic relations 12 years ago. Last year, President Xi Jinping invited Malawian President Arthur Peter Mutharika to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). The two heads of state had a fruitful meeting, bringing China-Malawi relations to a new height. The Chinese side stands ready to work with the Malawian side to continue to well implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, and promote practical cooperation between the two countries. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the Malawian side in international affairs and safeguard the common interests of both sides as well as the overall picture of China-Africa relations.

Francis Kasaila said, China is a true friend of Malawi and African countries, and China’s development brings benefits to the Malawian people. The Malawian side adheres to the One China policy and is grateful for the support and assistance of the Chinese side to Malawi. The Malawian side looks forward to the further development of Malawi-China relations and welcomes more Chinese enterprises’ investment in Malawi.
