In a significant step towards constitutional reform, leaders of political parties in the National Assembly have signed an agreement to continue with the amendment to the Constitutional Bill, commonly known as the Omnibus Bill. […]
The agreement outlines the full commitment of the National Assembly to expedite the passing of the 10th Amendment to the Constitution Bill. It emphasizes the importance of giving effect to the consensus reached among the political parties involved. The parties have pledged to consult their respective political organizations and encourage their support for the passage of the 10th Amendment, which may be segregated as necessary to comply with the constitutional requirements of Lesotho. […] The signatories of the agreement include the Prime Minister, Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Mathibeli Mokhothu, and nine other political parties. […] To ensure transparency and inclusivity, the Deputy Prime Minister, Justice Nthomeng Majara, highlighted plans for two consensual workshops where the omnibus bill will be discussed in detail. All relevant stakeholders will be provided with a copy of the bill before the workshops, allowing them time to study its contents.
