Ivory Coast made a confident start to the Africa Cup of Nations with a comfortable 2-0 win against Guinea-Bissau at the Stade Alassane Ouattara. Seko Fofana and Jean-Philippe Krasso scored the decisive goals in a match that sets the tone for the Ivorian campaign.
In the fourth minute, Seko Fofana showcased his skill on the edge of the penalty area, unleashing an unstoppable shot to give Ivory Coast an early lead. Fofana, seeking a brace, had another opportunity before halftime, but his well-placed effort was expertly tipped onto the bar by Guinea-Bissau’s goalkeeper, Ouparine Djoco.

The second goal arrived 13 minutes into the second half, as Jean-Philippe Krasso capitalised on Jonathan Bamba’s cross, guiding the ball into the net with precision.
Despite Guinea-Bissau having a notable chance to narrow the gap, with substitute Francolino Dju’s effort well-saved by Yahia Fofana, Ivory Coast maintained control of the game.
The match, played in challenging sweltering and humid conditions, saw the home team secure a convincing win, pleasing the fans but perhaps not delivering a performance that will instill fear in their upcoming group opponents, the Super Eagles of Nigeria. Ivory Coast’s next encounter is against Nigeria, while Guinea-Bissau will face Equatorial Guinea next Thursday, following Nigeria’s match against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.
