At least 5 people have died and thousands left homeless after heavy rain and floods caused severe damage in areas of Guinea from late August.

According to Guinea Red Cross Society, heavy rain fell over most of the country from 30 to 31 August, causing flooding in the prefectures of Siguiri, Guéckédou, and in the capital Conakry.
Almost 70,000 people from around 10,000 households have been affected. According to Guinea Red Cross, 43,815 people were affected in Siguiri, 9,305 in Guéckédou and 16,551 in Conakry. At least 5 fatalities were reported and 57 people injured.
Floods and heavy rains destroyed 867 houses, 763 water points and 964 latrines. Over 2,500 people have been left homeless or displaced. There were also severe impacts on agriculture and livestock.
