WFP supported the participation of the General Director of School Canteens of the Ministry of Education in the Third Continental Workshop on Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) organized by the African Union and WFP, and held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 29 May to 1 June. This opportunity reinforced the Director’s understanding of the HGSF integrated approach and enabled her to share lessons, experiences and challenges with colleagues from other countries.
From 19 to 24 June WFP supported the participation of Government staff in a Cost of Hunger in Africa (COHA) workshop held in Johannesburg, South Africa. Guinea-Bissau is participating in the third round of countries where the COHA study will be conducted. The study will be managed by a multisectorial national technical team composed of technicians from relevant ministries and institutions, including the National Institute of Studies and Research (INEP), National Statistics Institute (INE),
Ministry of Health, Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Ministry of Education.
On 21 June, in partnership with MTN, WFP inaugurated two school gardens in Oio region. These events were associated with the annual celebration of MTN’s 21 Days of Yellow Care. During the 21 days, MTN staff provided social services to vulnerable communities and institutions. This year MTN joined with WFP in providing agricultural tools and seeds for establishing these two school gardens in Mansoa and Bissora sectors.
From 20 to 23 June, WFP conducted joint field programme monitoring with the General Direction of School Canteens. WFP established this monthly joint exercise with national-level staff of the Ministry of Education to support the handover process that was initiated with the country programme.
