The gap in social innovation in Ghana is far-reaching and cutting sharp in diverse sectors of the country.
There is a noticeable lack of modern infrastructure and service provision, poverty levels still reach over 24 per cent, and 13% of the country’s population is estimated to be affected by drought.
Urban congestion, environmental degradation, severe food insecurity and high death rate, have made the need for innovative solutions more paramount, and Ghana stand at a critical juncture.
These social gaps demand tailored and localised innovations and creativity to improve the lives of many deprived communities.
The Global Solvers Accelerator and Co-Lab join the calculated efforts to harness the power of social innovativeness and entrepreneurial spirits of ambitious Ghanaian youth to address pressing country issues.
The Groundbreaking intervention to enhance social innovation by the Global Solvers Accelerator and Co-Lab is set to happen in Accra, Ghana from 22nd – 28th July 2024.
The 7-day Co-Lab event, Global Solvers program will accelerate social impact projects of ambitious Ghanaian youth whilst harnessing their leadership potentials for sustainable development and substantial impact on the Ghanaian society.
The Global Solvers Accelerator and Co-Lab initiative will provide support, and mentorship and scale these social projects to enable them to be translated into tangible solutions with essential impact.
The multifaceted gaps of social innovation in numerous communities in Ghana; require differing and comprehensive understandings and interventions to topple the Ghanaian landscape.
Chosen among hundreds of applicants worldwide, participants will be provided a platform to showcase their diverse fit-for-purpose projects supported by the Global Solvers Accelerator and Co-Lab.
Creative projects on sustainable development will address renewable and clean energy and sustainable agricultural gaps to improve the economic status quo and safeguard the environment.
The Ghanaian social innovation landscape yearns for tech-driven solutions as technology advances, providing unending opportunities across the world. Digital education and support complement efforts of innovation and technology hubs and centres emerging in Ghana.
Projects from participants will also hint at sustainable strategies for adoption in healthcare, and youth empowerment that potentially can address special challenges, and unlock opportunities for growth in communities in Ghana.
Social Innovation in Ghana is a culturally and contextually known concept, being handled closely by creative and determined young innovators.
This bottom-up approach is however characterized by inadequacy, where these innovators demand more support, resources and mentorship to thrive.
Hence, improvements in the sector of innovation are faint.
Owing to this, efforts including the Global Solvers Accelerator and Co-Lab are a significant strategy towards bridging the social innovation gap in Ghana.
The Global Solvers program coming up in Ghana is in collaboration with Ashesi University, MEST Africa, Ghana Climate Innovation Centre, Ghana Enterprises Agency, Global Communities Ghana, and Future of Africa.
