MentaPulse Africa, Ghana’s premier employee wellbeing advocacy organisation is leading an education campaign to address the mental health crisis among Ghana’s workforce.
The campaign adopts a series of approaches including outreaches, training programmes and a newly launched podcast series.
The maiden episodes of the podcast focus on the unique challenges faced by men especially at the workplace.
A 2023 report by American multinational analytics and advisory firm, Gallup, said more than half of Ghanaian workers experience high levels of stress at their jobs, everyday.
Executive Director of MentaPusle Africa, Manuel Koranteng speaking urged organisations to prioritise the wellbeing of their workers to reduce the negative impact of burnout and work-related stress.
“Sub-Saharan countries, including Ghana, have some of the world’s most stressed and burnt-out workers. The best talents in many workplaces across the continent are quitting quietly, and the best way to curb this attrition is to start paying attention to their mental and wellbeing needs and cater to them,” Mr Koranteng said.
He further explained the alarming levels of work-related stress due to long, unhealthy work hours and high workloads.
He advocated for a balanced approach that includes a reasonable work-life balance, which is crucial for the sustainability of the workforce.
“We are on an education drive to ensure that governments, employers, and employees in Africa are indeed providing or enjoying this support,” Koranteng added.
