YouScribe, described as the largest digital reading library on the African continent with over one million subscribers, has announced the launch of its services in Ghana in partnership with mobile payment specialist Digital Virgo and operator MTN.
Ghana becomes the fourteenth country to welcome YouScribe, and, perhaps more importantly, the second English-speaking country after South Africa. With over a million books, audiobooks, press titles and educational digital documents in its catalogue, and more than a million subscribers, YouScribe is already the largest French-language digital library.
Future readers will be able to take out a daily subscription for 0.75 Ghanan cedis (about US$0.06) giving them access to a digital catalogue comprising almost 200,000 English-language ebooks, numerous press titles, and thousands of audiobooks and comic books.
Digital Virgo, a specialist in mobile payment via telecom operator billing solutions, will support this growth through its digital technologies and acquisition strategies. It has partnerships with over 140 telecoms operators and over 300 merchants,
YouScribe is actively collaborating with leading Ghanaian publishers such as Adaex Edu, Subsaharan Publishers, and distributor African Books Collective, to enrich the catalogue with a selection of local content specially adapted to the Ghanaian public.
In the space of just four years, the number of readers subscribing to the YouScribe library has increased twenty-fold, exceeding 1.5 million readers worldwide. Over 95% of these readers are in Africa.
With a projected 6.1 million users by 2027, Ghana represents a fast-growing market for YouScribe, which says it aspires to play a key role in this evolution thanks to the distribution of content in local languages and its accessibility strategy.
