Special Report: Comium commits to transforming country’s digital landscape

The GSM company now managed by Monty Mobile, a multi-national company had earlier on embarked months of transitioning from testing to commercial deployment phase, thus introducing exciting new opportunities for the Gambian community.

The period also provides the company the opportunity to roll outs its most affordable 4G+ Network and a range of diverse offerings to meet the evolving needs of its growing customers.

At a presser to mark the end of its 4G+ testing phase held at its Kairaba Avenue head office, Abubacarr Drammeh, ISP director, described the day as a significant milestone in the annals of the institution.

He acknowledged that Comium went through some tough times in the recent past as a company, and therefore thanked God that that chapter was closed with the past amid the arrival of Monty Mobile as an investor and a management company.

“Monty Mobile is a multi-national company headquartered in the United Kingdom. The telecoms services provider operates in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa. Monty Mobile is not a tradition mobile operator and it has a culture of innovation and thinking out of the box.”

This culture of innovation and approach, he added, is being brought into Comium and the country to transform the GSM company back to its glory days as a leading player in the country’s GSM services.

Drammeh spoke highly of this multi-national company and that through 2023, Monty Mobile made a significant investment in the GSM company’s network, infrastructure and human resources, thus employing dozens of young Gambians in various departments of the company.

Under this new management, he said, the company’s poor network and data centres have been overhauled and replaced by State-of-the-Art 4G+ Plus and 5G network.

This, he added, constitutes the latest in 4G technology, adding that they have deployed 4G cell sites through the Greater Banjul Area and in the upcountry.

“I want to thank the Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA), the Ministry and our customers for their loyalty and patronage especially during the testing phase to implementation period.”

He promised that the GSM operator will always provide the most affordable 4G+ services in the country while staying glue with their customers is just the new beginning.

Sarjo Khan, commercial director, Comium, while recalling that it has been a rough road for the company in the past few years, reminded that with the coming of Monty Mobile, there have been tremendous changes in both access and operations of Comium.

Khan acknowledged that within this short moment, they’ve seen significant development in the company in terms of network, access and operational efficiency.

“Comium has today clearly indicated as a principle that it is a company for the people; as their slogan – ‘we are better together’. Significantly, for the past seven or eight months, we have all witnessed the deployment of 4G+ Plus network across most parts of The Gambia especially within the Greater Banjul Area.”

To this end, Khan spoke of their resolve to keep rolling out and growing the network and increasing the accessibility of the services to Gambians.

Isatou G. Ceesay, commercial manager, expressed delight for their services and packages that they have catered and dedicated for their growing customers.

With this launch marking a significant milestone for GSM provider, the company remains committed to enhancing the digital experience for Gambians. The company is also excited to build upon this success and introduce many Valued-Added Services in the coming months.
