He made the revelation at a press conference organised by the Ministry of Information on Friday.
The press conference focussed on the latest government developments, initiatives and policies taking place at various ministries and institutions. The briefing was held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Centre.
He said the project is under the Organisation of Southern Cooperation (OSC). Minister Gomez further said that a team has been identified for the cost of the short, medium and long-term programmes, adding that, the costing will be presented for funding for the programme to start before the end of the year.
He informed that a research focus area was identified in April as well as the provision of library information services and Greater Southern Information System (GreSIS).
He explained that the GreSIS is a digital transformation supporting the linking of educationists and researchers with their counterparts in other parts of the globe.
He noted that the system uses reliable connectivity-adequate allocation of bandwidth from the ACE fibre bandwidth, to connect millions of education and research resources.
He said the project supports knowledge transfer and research collaboration involving large data transfer among the collaborators. He added that the GAMREN will be connected to the West African REN in Accra and to the Global REN.
