Gambia sinks deeper into crisis

In this edition: Gambia’s political crisis deepens, Mali steps up security ahead of an Africa-France summit, and we look ahead to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh has appointed Musa Jallow as chief mediator to hold talks with the opposition, while criticising foreign mediation efforts. Representatives from West African bloc ECOWAS are expected to arrive in Banjul on Friday.

Also, security is stepped up in Mali ahead of an Africa-France summit that opens in Bamako on Friday, with 35 heads of state attending.

And we take a look at the top teams and players to watch at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off in Gabon on Saturday.
