The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), South Korea’s official development assistance agency, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) to implement joint activities and initiatives on development cooperation in third countries to eliminate poverty and achieve sustainable development.
The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement joint development cooperation activities in third countries, with a focus on Africa.
The agreement, signed by KOICA President Chang Won Sam and Egyptian Ambassador to South Korea Khaled Abdel Rahman on behalf of the EAPD, aims to enhance the socio-economic development of beneficiary countries through triangular cooperation.
“KOICA is actively working to promote triangular cooperation in the development sector,” said President Sam. “We hope that this partnership with the EAPD will contribute to enhancing South-South cooperation outcomes in the region.”
Ambassador Abdel Rahman affirmed that “Egypt is a priority country with technical expertise in agriculture, information and communications technology (ICT), and health,” and that “KOICA will be a key partner in Egypt’s efforts to expand regional cooperation in Africa.”
The MoU, which will be in effect for five years, will focus on building the capacities of African country officials in various fields, such as agriculture, irrigation, and healthcare. By utilizing the technical knowledge, best practices, and resources of both Egypt and Korea, the two agencies aim to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The signing took place during the Korea-Africa Future Partnership Conference, an official side event of the 2024 Korea-Africa Summit, hosted by KOICA on June 4th and 5th.
KOICA, a government agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is responsible for implementing grant aid programs to combat poverty and support sustainable socio-economic growth in partner countries worldwide. The KOICA Egypt Office opened in 1998, provides technical education for youth, supports the digitization of government services and systems, and implements programs to address gender-based violence, promote women’s economic empowerment, and support vulnerable groups.
The EAPD is an Egyptian agency that promotes South-South cooperation and development partnerships.
