Charlize Theron hosted her fourth annual Block Party benefit for the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) on Saturday night.
The festivities, which took place on the Universal Backlot, celebrated the upcoming release of “Twisters” with the film’s stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones among the bold-faced names in attendance. The invitation requested cowboy-themed attire.
The evening included performances by Lainey Wilson and Tanner Adell as well as a conversation between Theron and South African activists Neo Mohajane and Miché Williams.
CTAOP, launched by Theron almost two decades ago, invests in and advances the health and safety of young people in South Africa to create a more equitable future for all. CTAOP’s approach supports community-based organizations by providing funding, building community and amplifying their voices.
“Initially, I really trusted that we were playing in the right box,” the Oscar-winner told Variety. “It’s obviously evolved over the last 17 years but I always say the why has to be personal otherwise you can’t sustain it. Anybody can do something for five years or six years. But if you want to do something that’s going to mean something to you, and even when it’s hard and it’s painful, then it has to be something that has some sort of personal connection.”
The CTAOP Block Party 2024 was sponsored by Dior, CAA, Breitling, Universal Pictures and Solyco Capital.
