Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader Mmusi Maimane has joined in the celebrations after Bafana Bafana’s spectacular fight during their quarter-final clash against Cape Verde on Saturday.
The South African national team has advanced to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 tournament where they will face their nemesis, Nigeria, on Wednesday at 19:00 SA time.

MMUSI MAIMANE TROLLS NIGERIA AFTER BAFANA VICTORY
Ahead of the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana clash, Maimane has started laying some “rules”.
In an X post on Saturday, he wrote: “After we beat you no Nigerian is allowed to make an amapiano song for 5 years.”

Maimane’s joke is fuelled by the two countries’ rivalry off the pitch. On social media, there’s often a debate about which country owns amapiano – one of the biggest and trendiest music genres in the world, originally from Mzansi.
South Africans have previously been outraged by Nigerian musicians who have allegedly illegally sampled some amapiano tracks. Another X feud between the two nations came in July 2023 when American artist, Swae Lee posted about his interest in experimenting with amapiano, but added the Nigerian flag to his post instead of the South African one.

RONWEN WILLIAMS’ HEROICS
Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who is also the team captain, gave a reviting performance when he saved four penalties following a 0-0 draw against Cape Verde on Saturday.

Undoubtedly a contender for the Best Goalkeeper award at the end of the tournament, the Sundowns goalkeeper made a spectacular late save after Gilson Benchimol’s strike which ensured the quarter-final entered extra time.
And there was more from Williams who blocked Cape Verde’s first three penalties by diving to his right. He saved the last spot kick by diving to his left.
