French Ligue 1 side Dijon have offered Julio Tavares a new three-year contract which he has signed.
The bulky striker joined Dijon from Bourg-Péronnas in July 2012 and his previous contract with the club was left with nine months.
Dijon club president Olivier Delcourt is delighted to extend the marksman’s stay – with Tavares having helped the team finish 16th in the league last season.
“This contract extension rewards a player who has always had an irreproachable state of mind and a real attachment for his club,” Delcourt told Dijon’s official website.
“Like Dijon, he has always managed to successfully cross the ladder to Ligue 1. An example for all, which embodies the values of the club.”
The 28-year-old forward hit the back of the net nine times in 35 league matches for Dijon during the 2016/17 campaign.
Tavares, who was part of the Cape Verde team that defeated South Africa twice recently, has netted once in four leagues games for Dijon this season.
He started both matches as the Blue Sharks stunned Bafana Bafana 2-1 both home and away in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification Group D games.
