Despite widespread opposition and fears of exacerbating deadly political turmoil, millions in Burundi turned out to vote in a controversial referendum that could extend President Nkurunziza’s rule until 2034. Also, concern grows in Kinshasa as the WHO confirms a case of the deadly Ebola virus in Mbandaka, the capital of DR Congo’s north-western Equateur province. And as Zimbabwe waits for the final date of its next general elections, divisions are deepening in the opposition MDC party.
