Lame Jerry, the national director of Miss Teen Africa Botswana told Arts&Culture that the primary objective of the Talent and Fashion Showcase is to create an enabling environment for women empowerment.
She said by providing a platform for young people and upcoming designers to realise their potential, the event also aims to build their self-confidence and capacity to compete nationally, regionally, and internationally. Jerry explained that through this initiative, Miss Teen Africa Botswana is championing the proliferation and continuation of culture, self-worth, confidence, and empowerment of women.
She also said contestants have been tasked with creating national attires for themselves, allowing them to display their cultural heritage to a wider audience. “Not only designers will be showcasing their clothing lines, but we are also going to have some artists who will be performing at the fashion show, we have dancers, singers, DJ’s, so the fashion show is not only centred around empowering the designers only but other creatives in the industry.
The contestants have been tasked to make some national attires for themselves and this is a way that we are using to showcase our culture to other people and also to contribute to platforms that positions Botswana as the destination,” Said Jerry. Other than promoting talent, Jerry stated that the event also serves as a platform to showcase Botswana’s rich culture. “By contributing to platforms that position Botswana as a cultural destination, the Talent and Fashion Showcase not only empowers young designers but also promotes national pride and identity,” she added.
Furthermore, she stated that Azil Treasures, Beacon of Hope Foundation, La Fleur Boutique, Miss Heritage Global Botswana 2022, Miss Independence 2023, Bob Photography and ND Crotchets will also be present at the Talent and Fashion Showcase. “The Talent and Fashion Showcase acts as a catalyst for the future success of the participating designers. By exposing them to opportunities in the industry, the event provides a stepping stone for their careers. It unleashes their talent, ambition, and potential, while also building their self-confidence.
Through this initiative, Miss Teen Africa Botswana aims to empower young Batswana designers to realise their dreams and achieve success on both national and international stages,” she concluded. The main event, Miss Teen Africa Botswana finale will be held on June 1.
