Although she fell just short of winning the coveted title of Miss World, Chombo’s journey to the top four has captured the hearts of many and has made her a symbol of pride for her home country. Chombo, a stunning beauty with a heart of gold, had initially been a dark horse in the competition.
But late, Chombo wowed the judges and the audience alike with her poise and eloquence, shining bright in every round.
Her answer to the question during the Miss World competition helped her win the Miss World Africa title. She was asked how she would convince people from all over the world to adopt green and planet-friendly practices, Chombo responded by saying that she would focus on agriculture.
She believes that sustainable agriculture is not only important to address environmental concerns, but also to eradicate poverty and hunger. According to her, taking care of nature is paramount in securing a better future for all. She said: “Agriculture is the green and friendly practice I would urge people to adopt, where I am from, we practice agriculture, because it solves issues of hunger and poverty and ensures that communities and people who are not able to make a living can sustain themselves. Every time we take care of nature, we take care of the future.”
Chombo’s achievement has been celebrated by her fellow contestants as well. President Mokgweetsi Masisi took to social media to congratulate Chombo on her historic win. Masisi tweeted: “Lesego, you put us all on the global stage and won for Botswana and Africa.
We love, cherish and will always stand by you.” Krystyna Pyszkova from the Czech Republic was crowned Miss World 2024 by Miss World 2022, Karolina Bielawska from Poland. Pyszkova beat 115 contestants from different countries. Miss Lebanon, Yasmina Zaytoun, was named the first runner-up.
