BRICS group said it backs an enduring and mutually acceptable political solution to the Sahara issue in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
This came in a statement issued at the end of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg in South Africa, whose government attempted in vain to use the summit to promote the Algeria-backed separatist thesis in the territory.
On the sidelines of the BRICS summit, South Africa hosted a BRICS-Africa summit to which it invited the head of the Polisario separatist militia Brahim Ghali.
Ghali arrived in South Africa on board an Algerian presidential airplane to read the final statement of the BRICS which gave its backers in Africa (Algeria and South Africa) a cold shower by stressing the primacy of the UN process.
South Africa and Algeria have- since Morocco joined the African Union- failed to create a parallel process by enmeshing the African Union in the conflict.
Morocco has said it rejected the invitation of South Africa to attend the BRICS summit, citing attempts by the host country to derail the event from its purpose to serve an undeclared agenda.
Morocco also mentioned the negative stands of South Africa on the Sahara issue, while stressing that it has three strategic partnerships with the other BRICS members.
