Africa’s creative sectors have gone from strength to strength over the years from the rise of Afrobeats and Amapiano and names like Burna boy, Davido and Tyla becoming household names around the world, the continent’s worldwide cultural heft is undeniable, but still, challenges remains. Kayode Adebayo, founder one of the directors of the Arts Connect Africa organisation which works to professionalise the promotion of African culture and music is our guest.
Also, in Mozambique the discovery of plants and animals found no where else on earth has meant that the largest rainforest in Southern Africa will now be better protected from damage caused by mining and logging. Mabu forest in Mozambique is part of a newly recognized ecoregion and home to the famous sky islands, and as it turns out, some pretty unique residents as well.
Finally, since last summer, the El Niño weather phenomenon has wrought havoc on harvests in Zimbabwe. Half of the country’s population has been left food insecure, the government’s scrambling to boost its climate resilience and has declared a state of distater.
