On Wednesday in Addis Ababa, Morocco renewed its warning regarding the escalating relationship between terrorist groups and separatists in Africa during a meeting of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council.
Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Morocco’s permanent representative to the African Union, emphasized that these alliances lead to widespread instability and displacement of populations, alongside economic losses exceeding 171 billion dollars over the past decade.
Arrouchi noted that terrorist groups on the continent are benefiting from cooperation with separatists and armed groups, further complicating the security situation through transnational crime and the proliferation of illicit weapons.
He called for a firm response to these phenomena that threaten Africa’s stability and stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of extremism while supporting sustainable development to ensure the continent’s stability.
