The Men’s IHF Trophy Africa – Zone 2 in Nouakchott and Zone 5 in Addis Ababa – finished on Friday 17 May 2024, with the winners of the youth and the junior tournaments of both events booked their tickets to the IHF Trophy Continental Phase Africa.
In the IHF Trophy Zone 2 Africa, Guinea, who had already secured a title at the youth (U18) competition, beat Mali 42:18 in their last game. Senegal, who were given a 10:0 win against Mauritania, finished second, while Sierra Leone, Mali and Mauritania all ended the tournament with two points.
Guinea also won the junior (U20) event, where they defeated Senegal in the final, 31:28. Home side Mauritania claimed bronze after defeating Sierra Leone in the third-place encounter, 33:23.

Ethiopia and Rwanda triumph in Addis Ababa
At the IHF Trophy Zone 5 Africa, 11 goals from Tera Samson Bade lifted Ethiopia’s youth team to a 36:25 win against Rwanda in the final. The third-place encounter between Burundi and Kenya was closer, and it was Burundi who ultimately claimed a 34:30 victory and won bronze.
In the junior competition, it was Rwanda who won the title after a hard-fought victory against Uganda in the final match, 26:25. Ethiopia ranked third following a 44:38 win over Burundi.
