TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Low-cost carrier AirAsia X (AAX) has announced a new route to Africa, connecting travelers to the safari paradise of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. The route’s inaugural flight is scheduled for November 15, 2024.
Capital A CEO Tony Fernandes said the flight marks a historic achievement for AAX as Malaysia’s only budget airline to offer direct flights to the ‘safari capital of the world’. “We are very excited to announce a new route that directly connects Malaysia and Kenya,” said Tony in a written statement on Tuesday, July 2.
This milestone, said Tony, comes on the heels of AirAsia being named the world’s best low-cost airline by Skytrax for the 15th consecutive year. “This is a testament to our mission of connecting the world at an affordable cost,” said Tony.
Tony said this new route not only connects Asia and Africa but also holds the potential to boost tourism, business, and trade links between the two continents. “This is also the dawn of a new journey to Africa, and while we have a strong base in Asia and ASEAN, our dream is to make Kuala Lumpur a global hub for low-cost airlines.”
In March 2024, AAX also launched a new flight to Almaty, Kazakhstan, its first-ever service to Central Asia.
