This year, sixteen African countries will be holding their elections. These countries are Algeria, Botswana, Chad, Comoros, Ghana, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Senegal, Somaliland, South Africa, South Sudan, Tunisia and Togo.
Algeria
Elections in the North African country are set to be held in December with the current President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to run for a second term.
Botswana
The southern African country is set to hold its elections in October, and the current President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, will run for a second term.
Chad
In the Sahel region of Africa, Chad will hold its elections in October. The current head of state, General Mahamat Idriss Deby, who took power through a military coup, will be part of the 2024 presidential race.
Comoros
The southeastern African island country held its election on the 14 January. About 300.000 people voted, and incumbent President Azali Assoumani is set to win a fourth five-year term and was the first elected President of Comoros in 2002. However, he was accused of pre-stuffing ballots by opposition leaders.
Ghana
West African country Ghana’s elections will occur on the 7 December. The candidates include the incumbent vice-president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the National Patriotic Party(NPP), The National Democratic Congress’ John Mahama, New Force Movement’s Nana Kwame Bediako and Movement for Change’s Alan Kyeremanten.
Mauritania
The Northern African country is set to have its election on the 22 June.
Mauritius
The Southeastern African country is set to have its elections on the 30 November.
Mozambique
The Southern African country is set to be held on the 9 October.
Namibia
The election date has not yet been confirmed
Rwanda
The eastern African country is set to occur on the 15 July.
Senegal
The West African country’s election will occur next month on the 25 February.
Somaliland
The East African country’s elections will occur on the 13 November.
South Africa
There is no confirmed date for the elections
South Sudan
There is no confirmed date for the elections
Tunisia
There is no confirmed date for the elections
Togo
There is no confirmed date for the elections.
