TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) continues to aggressively expand its global market. Through the PIS Middle East (PIS ME) branch office, the company managed to penetrate new markets by conducting vessel trading in the African region and adding two new international shipping routes.
Muh. Aryomekka Firdaus, Corporate Secretary of Pertamina International Shipping, said that PIS Middle East successfully secured a cooperation contract for the Transko Yudhistira ship to transport fuel oil products in the West African region.
“Through this cooperation, PIS has also successfully added new international routes in the African market with new destinations in Mauritius and Togo,” Aryomekka said in a written statement on Monday, June 3.
He explained that this step was part of a new market penetration strategy which was in line with the growing demand for ships to distribute fuel oil products in the region.
PIS ME, he added, is part of PIS Asia Pacific—a subsidiary of Pertamina International Shipping which is the motor for global market expansion. Based in Dubai, PIS ME has been operating since the end of 2022 to work in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.
According to him, the business opportunity started with the operation of the Dangote refinery with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day in Nigeria in December 2023. PIS Middle East then seized the opportunity and secured a two-year contract worth US$9.3 million for the Transko Yudhistira ship.
“Once prepared, the Transko Yudhistira departed from Tanjung Priok, on 11 February 2024. Then, bunkering and other preparations took place at Port of Louis Mauritius until early March 2024, and the ship successfully delivered to the charterer at the end of March,” he said.
