The training is from the project titled “Increase self-reliance, build resilience and empowerment of vulnerable women and girls in The Gambia,”
Solomon Ifeanyi Nathaniel, national coordinator for Unique Foundation, said the project is a six-month project aimed at providing an alternative source of livelihood to 85 beneficiaries, with a primary focus on women and girls in The Gambia. “The core objective of this project is to empower these individuals to achieve self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.”
He highlighted that the project covers sewing, community gardening, digital education and literacy classes.
He further stated that the objective of the training is to enrich participants’ skills, ensuring the sustainability of their initiatives in a competitive business environment.
“I encourage each one of you to maintain the same resilience you have shown in the sewing classes and to actively participate in all the sessions. Even if you have only participated in the adult literacy classes, the knowledge gained here can be applied to enhance your various businesses,” he told participants.
“The promise I extend to you is that, the Learning Centre will stand by you, offering support in any way possible. Your success is not only your own but also ours as a community,” he flagged.
“We look forward to celebrating your accomplishments in the next six months, one year, or two years – whether it is owning tailoring shops, establishing fashion brands or even sewing for government officials. Dream big, and let this five-day training on Digital Financial Literacy and Branding Optimisation be a stepping stone toward those aspirations,” he further told them.
Aisha J. Sambu, a beneficiary said she also benefited from the tailoring classes offered by the foundation and can now sew clothes for herself and others. “I have gained a skill I can utilise in empowering myself and others around me,” she said.
She encouraged her fellow women to engage in skills work to be able to sustain themselves and contribute their quota to national development.
