AFRICA/NIGERIA – After Father Basil Gbuzuo, Father Oliver Buba has also been released
Abuja (Agenzia Fides) – Father Oliver Buba, kidnapped on May 21 in the Nigerian state of Adamawa (see Fides, 22/5/2024), is free.
This was announced by the Bishop of Yola, Stephen Dami Mamza, in whose diocese Father Buba serves. According to the statement sent to Fides, Father Buba was “released by his kidnappers in the early hours of May 30”.
The priest was kidnapped on May 21 at around 1 a.m. in the dining room of the rectory of the parish of Santa Rita.
“On behalf of the priests, religious and lay people of the diocese of Yola, I would like to thank and express my appreciation to all people of good will for their prayers and expressions of solidarity in these challenging and difficult times. May the Lord bless you and grant you peace,” says Bishop Mamza in the statement.
On May 23, Father Basil Gbuzuo was released (see Fides, 27/5/2024), who was kidnapped on May 15 on the Eke Nkpor-Obosi ring road in Anambra State (see Fides, 17/5/2024). (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides, 31/5/2024)
