Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi has said it is important for the team to win their next two games against South Africa and Benin Republic to boost their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Finidi George’s side is winless in Group C after drawing their opening two games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
The West Africans must beat the Bafana Bafana and Squirrels to have any chance of making it to the Mundial after missing out on the last time in Qatar.
Ndidi admitted that the Super Eagles are not happy with their position on the table and will fight hard to win their next two games.
“Yeah, they (the games) are really important because we know where we stand at the moment. it’s not a good position, to be honest, we should be honest with ourselves,” Ndidi said on Arise TV.
“As long as you’re in that group you want to qualify so there are no small countries or small teams.”
“Where we are at the moment gives us more pressure, because these games are must-win games. I’m not saying we will win the game but I’m saying they are must-win games because we don’t know what’s going to happen but it all bores down to us as a team because we know what is at hand and then we know we have to get as much as we can in these two games just to go up there,” Ndidi said.
The Super Eagles will entertain South Africa on Friday, June 7, before travelling to Abidjan three days later for the clash with Benin.
